Who We Are, What We Do And How We Do It.
We pride ourselves on being professional, respectful, honest and ethical. We offer a counselling and supervision service for clients; all our counsellors are members of the BACP, or NCS and are either accredited or working towards accreditation (with exception to the trainee counsellor). All qualified counsellors are on the BACP proficiency register as passed and approved practitioners. Links can be found to these on our Ethics and standards tab.
All our counsellors work within the an Ethical Framework set out by the BACP and NCS, will be qualified (with exception to our Trainee counsellor) to at least Level 4 Diploma, have done a minimum of 100 hours counselling during their training, have had all relevant checks and been approved, and all have indemnity insurance. Our more experienced counsellors may have a degree in counselling, or have had extensive ongoing training in areas that are both appealing to them and essential for their ongoing practice. They have extensive experience in working with clients, offering short- and long-term therapy.

Mary Sherrill, the founder of the Counselling Alliance, has extensive experience working with clients and has also been a counselling tutor for a number of years. “I am very aware of how many counsellors complete their extensive training and cannot find employment. Even those with a degree in counselling will often end up volunteering. It is this that has driven me to find a way to help both clients and counsellors and this inspired my launch of the Counselling Alliance”.
Newly qualified counsellors and counsellors in training will be supported and mentored closely by the more experienced counsellors. All the counsellors attend regular supervision and ongoing training courses to enhance their skills.
The Counselling Alliance has been set up to allow more people to be able to access counselling. There is an initial assessment to support you in finding the right counsellor. We know some people cannot afford counselling and therefore are able to offer a limited free counselling service (details on our appointments page), along side our low cost service.
